To the Editor:

Sad to read the owners of The Kenyon Market grocery store might close down.

With the Dollar Store competition cutting sales by 10%, it certainly would spotlight the economic decline of Kenyon. Like the Sunset home closure, it speaks to the difficult population trends in small town Minnesota. The enrollment decline in all public school districts in southern Minnesota is hitting all communities, and of course the incredible billion “Feed My Children” fraud in Minnesota and the DFL legislature blowing about $15 billion over the last two years only make things worse.

But there is also good news. The former Peterson Ford building is now home of A&J Design, doing metal work for data centers and FEMA and Daiken in Faribault, and they are now up to 60 employees. Ashley and Jon Meyers are creating a wonderful success story, along with good paying jobs.

When I come to Kenyon for a haircut, I now make it a point to stop at the Kenyon Market.
