Nerstrand Fire & Rescue Improves Public Protection Classification Provided by Insurance Service Office

Nerstrand Fire & Rescue ISO PPC improves to 5/5X

Posted

Nerstrand, MN — On 3/27/2023 the Insurance Services Office (ISO) announced that the fire protection classification (PPC) of Nerstrand Fire & Rescue improves to Class 5/5x effective July 1, 2023, a significant improvement from previous classification 7/7x.

The classification provided by ISO analyzes relevant data of three major components of fire suppression: fire department, communication, and water supply. ISO then assigns a classification from 1 to 10 with 1 being superior fire protection and class 10 signifying meeting minimal criteria.

Nerstrand Fire & Rescue’s classification meets or exceeds the Minnesota and peer average in most components assessed. A rating of 5/5x indicates all properties within 1,000 ft of a recognized water supply will receive a rating of 5. All properties more than 1,000 ft of a recognized water supply but within 5 miles of the Nerstrand or Dennison station, and within our service area, will receive a rating of 5x.

ISO Classification plays an important role in insurance underwriting and is utilized by most major companies. The ISO PPC data is part of the information used to help determine what coverage to offer and prices to charge for insurance coverage.

The improvement in classification rating is directly related to a unified effort of many stakeholders.
