Nerstrand Fire & Rescue Attends Grain Bin Rescue Training

Posted

April 23rd, Nerstrand Fire & Rescue held a grain bin rescue training. These hands-on drills are vital for preparing our team to respond safely and effectively during farm emergencies — especially grain bin incidents, where every second counts.

Grain bins can be extremely dangerous. A person can become trapped in seconds, and without the proper training and equipment, rescue is difficult and dangerous.

A few important safety tips for farmers and workers:

• Never enter a grain bin alone — always have someone nearby and maintain communication.

• Shut down and lock out all augers and equipment before entering.

• Use a safety harness and lifeline anytime you enter a bin.

• Watch out for crusted or bridged grain, which can collapse suddenly.

• Talk regularly about safety with family members and farm staff.

We’re also looking for new members!

If you live or work in the area and are available during the day, we need more daytime responders. It’s a great way to serve your community, and all training is provided. If you’re interested or just want to learn more — we’d love to talk.

We’re proud to serve our community and stay ready for whatever comes our way.
