Nerstrand Elementary School

Nerstrand Elementary School has had a busy start to the year. The students are settling in, learning is in full swing and adventures are taking place.

In late September, students took their first field trip to the Big Woods for our annual Discovery Day. The theme this year was ‘adaptations’. Students participated in an obstacle course, walked a trail looking for things that did not belong in nature, made an eagle craft and hiked to the falls. It was a cold day and at times rained, but everyone enjoyed the opportunity to be outside learning.

In early October, students participated in another field trip. This time, they walked to a prairie here in town called Prairie Creek. The goal was to plant seeds and learn about the wildflowers found on the prairie. Historically, the students go to a prairie once a year. On a three year cycle, they learn about the plants, wildflowers and animals. They had a great time.

In mid-October, students enjoyed learning about fire safety from the Nerstrand Fire Department. Through a collaborative effort, students gained knowledge on fire safety. They were shown a video, the fire trucks, gear and participated in spraying water. We are thankful for this partnership and the students really liked the experience.

On October 12th, Nerstrand Elementary participated in the National Bike/Walk to school day. Our entire school met at the City Park that morning before school so we could all bike or walk to school. We were led by the Sheriff and the Fire Department was the end of our train. It was wonderful to have this experience altogether as a school and community.

Nerstrand Elementary School is off to a great academic start. We are excited for all the learning yet to take place this year.
