Elaine Hope, age 94 of Northfield, passed away peacefully, at her home, on May 13, 2024.

Elaine Ovidia (Remme) Hope was born March 27, 1930, on the family farm in Holden Township, Goodhue County, Minnesota, to Ole E. and Jorgena C. (Nesseth) Remme. She was raised on the farm, attended country school and graduated from Kenyon High School in 1947.

On June 11, 1948, Elaine married Norman W. Hope at Vang Lutheran Church in rural Kenyon. After marriage they made their home on the Hope family farm at Valley Grove. Elaine and Norman worked together on the farm; raised five children, and were active in 4-H, and Farmers Union. They enjoyed trips each summer to their cabin on the shores of Lake Superior. After their children were grown, Elaine worked for many years at Northrup King in the genetics lab, before retiring.

Elaine was a long-time member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and found great comfort in her faith. She enjoyed gardening; having both a large vegetable garden and beautiful flower gardens at the farm. She always had homemade treats on hand. She loved to travel; fishing in Canada, and camping throughout the western US with her family. After Norman died in 1988; she stayed on the farm and continued to travel with friends and family to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and Norway. In 2000, Elaine married Tom Hill and moved to rural Medford, Minnesota. When Tom died in 2012, Elaine moved to Northfield, where she lived until her death. Elaine was hardworking, active, funny and social. She cherished spending time with her family; she will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her children Nancy (Kevin) Shannon of Dennison, Peggy Klassen-McKinnon of Faribault, Julie Ward of Lantzville, British Columbia, Susan (Ronald) Erickson of Minneapolis, Eric Hope of Nerstrand; six grandchildren Joseph (Ann) Shannon, Elliott (Carly) Klassen, Martha (T.J.) Muhl, Hanna Ward, Bryan Erickson and Leah Erickson; three great-grandchildren Silas, Micah and Rowan; nieces and nephews; and Jody Lee of Minneapolis who was like a daughter to Elaine. She was preceded in death by her first husband Norman, her second husband Thomas, her sons-in-law Michael Klassen and Gary Ward, her sister Hazel Houglum and her parents.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers that provided Elaine with loving, compassionate care at her home in Northfield.
